How to buy

Supply only, DIY or fully installed?

Beams are within reach of a capable installer, but the judgment calls decide the result. Here is how to pick a route, and how to compare quotes fairly.

The short answer

Buy supply only if you have a capable installer or are outside our install area. Choose installation if the ceiling is tall or complicated, the layout is tricky, or you want one company responsible for the result.

The three routes

The most common mistake is comparing a supply-only price with an installed one.

DIY

Be honest about these before you go DIY

Finding the structure. The beams are light, but the blocking still has to be fixed securely into framing. Follow our installation guide.

Height and access. A vaulted ceiling changes the job, so check what you would need to work safely. Our DIY guide explains the whole process.

Joints and touch-up. Long runs and cut ends are what make a ceiling look added-on. Read the common installation mistakes first.

What to ask each company

  1. Is this supply-only or installed?

Rates are only comparable when they cover the same scope.

  2. What is included?

Ask about design, finish, freight, waste allowance, touch-up and removal of anything existing.

  3. Who is licensed, and for what?

Check the license before the portfolio. See hiring a ceiling installer.

  4. How are the beams fixed?

A clear answer tells you whether they have thought about your ceiling.

FAQ

Common questions

Are faux beams hard to install yourself?

Decorative polyurethane beams are within reach of a competent DIY installer. Finding the joists, fixing the blocking and treating joints are what decide the result.

Can my contractor install your beams?

Yes. We supply beams and installation guides for your own installer.

Do you install outside your service area?

We install in our service regions. Elsewhere, we can ship beams within the continental US for a local installer.

Ready when you are

Send a photo and the room size. We will take it from there.

Room dimensions, ceiling height, a photo of the space as it is now, and whether you want it installed or supplied. That is enough to scope it and come back with a rough estimate — free.
