Natural wood or faux wood for walls and ceilings?
We work with both, so this is not a pitch for one. They suit different rooms, and sometimes different parts of the same room.
Choose natural wood when real grain, variation between boards and a surface that ages are the point. Choose faux wood when a consistent repeat, a tall or long run, lower weight or an awkward substrate matter more.

How they compare on a wall or ceiling
| Option | Natural wood | High-density polyurethane |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | Real grain, unique boards | Molded from real timber, consistent repeat |
| Over time | A surface that develops | Finish stays consistent |
| Room conditions | Responds to temperature and humidity | Stable |
| Weight | Heavier; fixing has to be planned | Light |
| Matching | Varies board to board; matched from a sample | Finished to an approved sample |
| Best fit | Rooms where the material is the feature | Long walls, tall elevations, awkward substrates |
What tends to work where
Living room feature wall
Natural wood if you want the real thing up close. Faux if the wall is long and consistency matters.

Lighter faux components are easier to handle and fix at height.

Durability and repeat often win, though real timber can be the statement.

Species, stain and color
Species and stain decide how the wall reads more than the layout does. Because timber varies, matching to existing joinery or flooring is done from a physical sample. See natural wood staining and color coordination.
Mixing is fine too: real wood at eye level with lighter faux members overhead can make sense. Read about our wood beam profiles and natural wood design.
Common questions
Does faux wood look fake on a wall?
Look at a physical sample in your own light. The texture is molded from real timber, and the finish does much of the work.
Is natural wood harder to install?
It needs more planning, since it responds to the conditions in the room. Long-term stability depends on the fixing method and letting it acclimate.
Can you match real and faux wood in one room?
Yes. We match finishes to a sample so that they read together.
Send a photo and the room size. We will take it from there.
Room dimensions, ceiling height, a photo of the space as it is now, and whether you want it installed or supplied. That is enough to scope it and come back with a rough estimate — free.
