Feature walls

Wall paneling or wallpaper for a feature wall?

Both can carry a room. Paneling adds real depth and shadow, while wallpaper adds pattern and color with far less build-up.

The short answer

Choose paneling when you want depth, shadow lines and a built-in feel. Choose wallpaper when you want pattern or a mural with a thin profile. Wallpaper needs a smoother wall, while paneling can cover an imperfect one.

Three things to check

Light. Paneling depends on shadow, so how light rakes across the wall changes how much relief you will see. Judge samples in the room.

What is in the wall. Outlets, switches, vents and TV mounts all need a plan, especially for deeper panels.

What is next to it. Paneling can carry through to a beamed ceiling or match existing trim. We match finishes to a physical sample.

FAQ

Common questions

Which is cheaper, paneling or wallpaper?

It depends on the product, the wall and the area. We quote per project, so send the wall size and a photo for a rough estimate.

Can you panel just part of a wall?

Yes. Slat and batten works full height or as a panel behind a bed, sofa or reception desk.

Do I need to fix my wall before wallpaper?

Usually some preparation is needed, since wallpaper can show what is underneath. Paneling is more forgiving.

Ready when you are

Send a photo and the room size. We will take it from there.

Room dimensions, ceiling height, a photo of the space as it is now, and whether you want it installed or supplied. That is enough to scope it and come back with a rough estimate — free.
